Beautiful Phalaenopsis has long, coarse roots with pneumatodes and short leafy stems hidden by overlapping leaf bases. The leaves are usually arranged in two rows, relatively large and leathery, oblong to elliptic and sometimes succulent. Phalaenopsis are one of the longest blooming orchid genera, producing flowers that last from 2 to 6 months before dropping. Phalaenopsis have also been known to bloom 2 to 3 times per year once they have reached a mature size. A few to many, small to large, long-lasting, flat, often fragrant colourful flowers are arranged on erect to hanging racemes or panicles. The sepals and petals are free from and spread widely apart from each other. The lateral sepals are usually larger than the dorsal sepal and the petals much wider than the sepals. They are extremely easy to grow and flower in the home or office, as long as some care is taken to provide them with conditions that approximate their native habitats. PHALAENOPSIS ORCHID CARE

LIGHT : This beauty can be grown in indirect light or semi-shade.

PLANTING MEDIA : Phalaenopsis orchids can be planted in quite a wide variety of materials, including fir bark, sphagnum peat, tree fern, charcoal, sphagnum moss, perlite, coconut husk chips, diatomite, lightweight expanded clay (LECA) or any mixture of these materials.

WATERING : Require moderate watering and occasional misting.

FERTILIZER : Apply Island liquid nutrient fortnightly.

REMARKS: Prefers cooler temperatures for growth and for initiation of flowering (25'c and below would be ideal). Good for air conditioned rooms and offices.

INSTRUCTIONS TO USE ISLAND LIQUID NUTRIENT 

Dissolve 1 capful of Island Liquid Nutrient to 1 liter of water and pour the diluted nutrient over the soil. Apply once every 2 weeks for healthy and luxuriant growth.
